The Law That Ate the Constitution

What legislation led to the woke madness of modern America?

Christopher Caldwell points to the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s.

This is near heresy in 2021. Suggesting that anything the civil rights crusaders did was detrimental to American society is almost like nailing the 95 Theses to the door in Wittenberg.

You cannot challenge leftist dogma.

But, if anyone reviews what the opponents of this legislation had to say when it was up for debate, we should not be surprised by why has transpired.

They could see what was coming.

The Civil Rights Acts created a shadow constitution that has been used to increase federal power exponentially–and unconstitutionally at least according to the original document.

Of course, what made all of this possible was a faulty interpretation of the illegally ratified 14th Amendment, and by default the radical Republicans of the 1860s, the same people that modern “conservatives” like to claim as their own.

No one would confuse Thad Stevens for a “conservative” in 1866, but Fox News likes to make the case.

Helen Andrews wrote a very good review of Caldwell’s book
, and that served as a great anchor for episode 556 of The Brion McClanahan Show.
